\subsection{\textbf{Background}
\\}

Founded in 2002 by Cathy N. Davidson (Duke University) and David Theo Goldberg (Director, UCHRI). It is a consortium of humanists, artists, social scientists, scientists and engineers committed to new forms of collaboration across communities and disciplines fostered by creative uses of technology. It is an international online community with contributors from all over the globe including:
\\7,150 HASTAC members
\\365 HASTAC Scholars since 2008
\\26 HASTAC Scholar Forums
\\\hypertarget{Goal}{}

\subsection{\textbf{Goal}
\\}

To develop innovative systems that support research and teaching in the humanities and arts. They strive to focus on alternative modes of creating, innovating, and critiquing that better address the interconnected, interactive global nature of knowledge. Their research extends across traditional disciplines, across the boundaries of academe and community, across the "two cultures" of humanism and technology, across the divide of thinking versus making, and across social strata and national borders. Research is peer-reviewed and reliant on good reputation  to ensure accountability and funding.\hypertarget{Role_of_HASTAC}{}

\subsection{\textbf{Role of HASTAC}}

HASTAC administers the MacArthur Foundation???s Digital Media and Learning Competition which has awarded \$6 million to 72 of the most innovative digital media and learning projects in the U.S. and internationally. Winners share, collaborate, and learn together through forums, blogs, original projects, research, conferences, unconferences, webcasts, interviews, and social media, combining theory with practice, learning with doing, both virtually and face-to-face.\hypertarget{Related_Projects}{}
